Prostate Cancer Support Group
March 15 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
This month we will present a video interview that John Fortin and I did with Dr. Jelle Barentsz at the Radiological Society of North America’s (RSNA) annual conference in November. Dr. Barentsz is known as the godfather of Multiparametric prostate MRI scans and is a Professor at Radboud UMC, Nijmegen, Netherlands.
His 3 most important contributions are:
- Rebirth of the macrophages specific nano-MR contrast agent (Combidex ®),
- Development, validation and implementation of multi-parametric MRI, resulting in the wide-spread use of prostate MRI, and:
- Development plus implementation of the PI-RADS scoring system for structured interpretation of prostate MRI’s.
He is Founding Member and Past-President of the ICIS and Past-President of the ESUR. Currently he is Professor of Radiology and Chair of the Prostate MR-Reference Center. This center provides education and quality control and is visited yearly by > 3000 patients.
Also, Brother, Brady Radford lead us in a discussion on “What information and resources would you have liked to have had when you were first diagnosed?” “ How did you handle sharing your PCa diagnosis with family, employers and meaningful parties? ” We will try to compile your answers and anonymously make the information available to men who are newly diagnosed
These seasoned groups of prostate cancer survivors are here to help you feel comfortable and network with those that have been there. They understand and can help you work your way through the maze of information and questions.
This group will also include partners/spouses/caregivers. If at any time, an attendee feels uncomfortable, the group will break away for men to have their separate conversations.
RESERVATIONS ARE REQUESTED by calling 404-425-7944 and leave a message with your name and that you will be attending the meeting.
